I am always looking for new ways to incorporate learning in a different and fun way. I love the Hot Dots pens. I bought them for my own kids to practice sight words and math facts and they both enjoyed practicing. I use them in the classroom to help work on basic math facts. If you are looking for something other than flashcard aps, take a look at investing in something like this. You can get numerous sets of cards for a variety of topics.

Today I continued to work with children in assessing their reading levels. Students worked on skills through their daily 5 packets. We focus on subjects and predicates and fixing capitalization and punctuaion mistakes in sentences. Students also work on short vowel sounds in spelling.

In math we continue to explore the relationship between multiplication and division. We especially focus on those key words Groups OF 6, or 6 groups and how we model that in our drawings differently. We will keep working learning those basic facts. Soon we will begin math groups and focus on skills and enrichment of skills.

Next week we will also complete our baseline ELA comprehension and reading assessment. We do this quarterly to help us progress monitor how students are doing and use it to guide our instruction. Students will also begin to the STAR assessments on the computer. I know this sounds overwhelming, but we do use all these tools to help us teach your child to the best of our ability.

Don't forget....Parent Info Night is next Tuesday, the 19th! I look forward to seeing you all there!
