Welcome back everybody! It's a new year and we are ready to get back into our routine! Today in math, we looked at lesson 19 which had students solving multiples of 10. We looked at the hidden basic fact and used that to help us get the multiples of 10. For example 3 x 5 = 15 so 30 x 5 = 150. All students seemed to get the hang of it very quickly so hopefully the homework was easy for them. I continue to reinforce skills during math centers. Today we looked at solving the perimeter of squares and rectangles, solving word problems using RDW, and counting coins. We will continue to build on these skills in order to keep 2nd grade skills fresh since we don't explicity teach them this year in 3rd grade.
This week I will be reassessing students on their reading level with the F&P. I will pass along that informaiton as soon as I have finished. We are also spending a good amount of time working on responding to short response questions in reading. Toward the end of the month we will begin working on extended responses which are basically two to three short responses in one longer answer. The more competent they are in the short respsonse, the better prepared they are for extended response. Piece by piece.....we'll get there!
I sent home the January Specials Schedule and also put it as a link under announcements. Please grab it in case you didn't see it in your child's folder.
Please take the time to look through your child's folder every night. I had a lot of students come to school with a lot of papers which were sent home before the break.....some students still had the December specials calendar in their folders! I try to keep you updated with remiders, but they are much more helpful if they make it out of the folder!
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything!
