We are well into our new schedule and I really think it is working out much better. I am able to meet with students individually to work on specific skills as well as meet with all reading groups and targeted RTi groups.

In reading groups we are working on the /j/ and /s/ sound in spelling words. WE concentrate on the skill of coming to a conclusion based on text evidence.

In math we have finished module 4 which focuses on area. We will assess this module on Tuesday. On Wednesday we will begin Module 5 which deals with fractions. This unit is always very hard for students as it focuses a lot on the term unit fraction. This simply means if a whole shape is broken up into 3 pieces, the unit fraction is 1/3. We also look at improper fractions as we can have 4/3 or 6/3, and with that is understanding that 6/3 is the same as 2 whole items. This becomes much easier when they have knowledge of their multiplication and division fact families.

In science we are looking at forces and the interactions they play.

We just finished our unit on Canada. Our next stop around the world is South Africa!
