Well, the end of November is almost here! December will fly by, but we have plenty to keep us busy!

In today's math lesson we explored the beginning concepts of algebra ! We started by showing multiplication problems and leaving one of the factors out and putting a question mark. LIke this.... 8 x ? = 32

Then we left a blank space like this....

5 x ____ =20

Then I added pictures and you know what?! We could still figure out the problem! We then put letters in those blanks/question marks/pictures and we were able to solve for the unknown. The biggest road block that students found in trying to solve for the unknown, was actually knowing their multiplication and division facts. We practiced rewriting division problems as the inverse multiplication just in case it helped us see the problem better. Again, we need to work on those basic facts in order to not get stuck when working on these skills!

In reading we are working on Main Idea and details while learning about soem famous inventors. The students have been working on pronouns; both identifying them and replacing nouns with the proper pronoun.

Anyone interested in ordering books from Scholastic, please log on to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and place your order by Friday the 1st. I want to make sure we have enough time to get the books in before we have Christmas break. There are lots of great deals and wonderful books to choose from! Books make great presents and wonderful stocking stuffers!
