Today was a very busy day. We worked on writing stories about a time we were scared. I discussed with students how these stories could be realy experiences or fictional. I gave an example of how a student wrote a really great story about a time they were lost in a store. I also allowed students to write a spooky Halloween story. We are doing writing conferences this week to edit and fix them. We will use time next week to type up our final drafts and have our first published piece of writing!

We also began working in our Ready NY book which helps reinforce reading skills in reading passages. We worked on RACE and citing details from the text. Students had two RACE style questions to complete tonight that went with two Time For Kids articles. We read the articles in class, but I told students they should read them again at home. They may read them independently or have you help read to them.

We had a slew of students who left their planners at school yesterday. I stressed the importance of making sure the planner got home every night so parents could see the notes written or stapled in them as well as confirm what the homework for the day is. Please be sure to look for the planners and sign them every day. This allows me to know you have seen the assignments and it is OUR contract together that we are checking in with the students and helping to keep them on track.

We took our Module 1 test this morning and I will get them back to you as soon as possible. Module 2 will start tomorrow! Take a look at the next module on measurement and time! All modules can be found on www.engageny.org you can also find supplemental videos for each lesson on https://embarc.online/course/view.php?id=38
