Hello Parents! Today was a great day! The class worked hard and I was so proud of them. As you may know, Mrs. LaGuardia has taken a position at another school, so she is no longer working with us in the classroom. As soon as the new teacher is hired, we will introduce her to you!
Today we worked with using measurement in word problems. A reminder....I have taught the kids to divide the space of a word problem into three sections. The first part is for a tape diagram or drawn model, the middle is for the math sentence showing how to get the answer, and the last section is for the answer written out in a complete sentence. The biggest problem that students are having is understanding what operation to use and what those key words are. We will continue to work on that in class.
In science we are working on the water cycle. We created vocabulary cards with definitions for this unit. We will continue to add to these card rings all year, so if you see them come home, please make sure they come back! Students would be asked to study these words from time to time. We will have a quiz on the water cycle next week!
In ELA we have been reading books and sequencing events. Students work on reinforcing reading skills independently as well as in small group.
Next week is Halloween and Parent Visitation. I look forward to seeing you there! We will have lots of fun games to share with you!
