Hello Parents,

Sorry for the brief hiatus......but I'm back! Here's a look at what's going on in room 116!

READING: we have rearranged our reading groups according to data in order to better instruct based on skills needed. We are working on cause and effect this week. Ask your child some quick questions at dinner. What could cause the lights to go out? What would be a possible effect if I pushed this glass of water over? We continue to work on our reading logs. As students focus on using the correct format and writing complete sentences, they practice making connections to literature (with the added bonus of working on their writing!)

MATH: We have just about wrapped up Module 2. I will give the module 2 assessment on Wednesday. On Thursday students will work on some review work with some concepts such as place value and multi-digit addition and subtraction. On Friday we will have the module 1 & 2 quarterly assessment which lets us know how much students have grown since the beginning of the year. Module 3 will begin after the Thanksgiving break. It goes back to multiplication and multiplication strategies. I recommend getting those flash cards ready and practice a little bit every night. The more confident students are in the basic facts, the easier longer, multi-step problems will be.

SCIENCE: We are wrapping up our unit on weather and the water cycle. Students have taken several notes and lots of activities. We will begin a new social studies until after the Thanksgiving break.

Students should have been working on their Thanksgiving book projects. This is a really fun way to incorporate the holiday, but also make it personal! Students love to share their books with the class and they always are beautiful and decorative! I can't wait to see them all. All books are due on Friday, 17th. If you need paper or construction paper or any other supplies, please let me know. I have given several students some supplies already.

Book Orders are due this week. I will extend it until after the Thanksgiving break in order to incorporate any December flier orders that you may want to purchase. Then we can make sure the books arrive before the Winter Break.
